So, you want to enjoy a responsible old drink as 2010 arrives - who doesn’t? You want something a bit special - a cut above the swill you empty down your neck the rest of the year. But if at all possible, you’d like it to cost you even less - Gobbler don’t blame you. Now, we’re not going to pretend to be the people best qualified to aid you in this decision - we plainly are not. But what we will say is that we will be prancing about with one or some of the below this new year’s eve, and what’s good enough for us… Waitrose, Brut Cava 2 stars £6.49 Perhaps we’re missing something here, perhaps not; fine sharp fizz but so much taste. Sainsbury’s, Vintage Cava 4 stars £5.99 (half price offer) I think the technical term is quaffable, and boy could we quaff this! Refreshing and dry with a splash of fruity bubbles. Tesco, Brut Cava 3 stars £3.98 A coarser bubble, with more punch than the competition, but enjoyable nonetheless.
