Top 5: Wintery soups part 1

Cop a cup of pea and ham

Here are Thrifty Gobbler’s top 5 ways to combat a great British winter:

1. Leaving your underwear on a radiator overnight
2. Wearing multiple layers of woollen clothing, all tucked in
3. Terry Wogan’s voice
4. Eating porridge for breakfast
5. Eating soup the rest of the time

For the purposes of this feature however, we’re just going to focus on number five; soup. Soup is a big, warm, slippery hug; a massive wet blanket; and a drinkable sweater, fashioned from vegetables. We love it. So for the next five weeks, we Gobbling folk are going to count down our ultimate wintery soups, in the hope that it might take our mind off the dark mornings and even darker evenings. I can’t see it working.

Kicking things off is Uncle Chris’s pea and ham soup.
